To maintain strict standards, many academic journals use simple, clear cover designs. The format and color of each cover remain consistent throughout the year, with only the issue number and publication date varying from issue to issue. Therefore, when the print run for each issue is fixed, a low-cost, high-efficiency printing process can be employed.

When the issue number, publication date, and other information are designed to be embossed onto a light pattern or background, the text can be printed in 100% black. Printing paper can be prepared based on the annual print run, plus the required overprint for each issue. After printing the first issue, the black version of the issue number, publication date, and other information can be removed using a plate correction fluid. The remaining paper can then be printed. The first issue's prints can be wrapped and sealed. For each subsequent print run, the required number of copies can be taken and the black version containing the current issue's issue number, publication date, and other information can be overprinted.

When the journal number and publication date are designed on a blank background, the color of the text can be designed in color. An appropriate amount of paper is prepared based on the annual volume. After printing the first issue, the journal number and publication date are removed directly from the corresponding printing plate, and the remaining paper is then printed. The printed material from the first issue is wrapped and sealed. For each subsequent printing of the journal, the required number of prints is taken out, and a spot color matching the color of the first issue is used to overprint the current issue's journal number and publication date.

This cover printing process not only ensures color consistency throughout the year, but also effectively reduces printing costs. Each issue saves three sheets of film, three plates, and three printing color plates, as well as paper consumption, and improves printing efficiency for each cover.
